I’ve downloaded the latest version of Anki and now I don’t see any of the decks I originally had, nor does it show the newer shared decks I’ve downloaded to install. It just opens with no decks showing. Can someone please help me?
I haven’t used Anki for a couple of years. When i opened I saw all my original decks, but then when I tried adding some new decks they didn’t show so I upgraded to the latest version and now when I open Anki it doesn’t show any decks at all no matter what I do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did this happen immediately after you updated to the new version – as in, the very next time you opened Anki? It’s possible that –
You are now looking at a different profile than you were before.
You synced with AnkiWeb, and overwrote your local collection with an older/emptier collection.
Let’s start with #1 – depending on what version you upgraded from (do you know what that was?), it could be a different profile or a different storage location entirely. Take a look at the old and new file locations for Anki – Managing Files - Anki Manual . Do you see anything at the old location? At the new location, do you see multiple profile folders?
OK, so I decided to start from scratch as the decks I orginally had weren’t really doing to be useful. I (supposedly) uninstalled Anki, then re-installed it and then tried to get it to show a couple of shared decks. Nothing happens. When I try installing the decks I’ve downloaded it looks like it’s just re-installing Anki. What do I need to do?
OK, first, I can open Anki version 24.06.3 Qt6. If I go to the file %appdata%\Anki2 I see two files (plus others). User1 and JERRY which are the two profiles available to me in Anki. When I open Anki now and click on JERRY to change from User1, I get a message saying, “Your collection needs to be upgrade to the v3 scheduler. Please select learn before proceeding” At least this is a change from yesterday. What should I do at this point?
By the way, please let me thank all the folks who have responded so quickly to my posts. I’m kinda in a bind here. Not having any experience with Anki over the last couple of years from when I first installed it. When I first re-opened it, Initially there were all the decks I’d installed several years ago, but then they disappeared. I can’t remember what I did to cause that to happen. Maybe upgrading?
Anyway, I don’t mind losing all those decks if I could just manage to get the new shared ones installed.
What I’m doing:
I download the deck then click on it from my download folder and what happens is it just runs an install of Anki again, or at least that’s what it seems to do. But no deck shows up when I open Anki either as User1 or Jerry (which are my two profiles).
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Worst possible caseI’ll just get on another computer than my laptop and install Anki and run everything as a entirely different user. But it would be nice if I could get this present version squared away
First of all, make a backup copy of that %appdata%\Anki2.
“Your collection needs to be upgrade to the v3 scheduler. Please select learn before proceeding”
The second sentence makes no sense to me. I guess you misquoted it.
After you back the full collection up correctly (there is also Backups - Anki Manual , although I never use export for full backup; it won’t include add-ons), you can try allowing it to upgrade.
