Nested Sets on Mobile

I’m posting this on both the private and public forums because this feels like an essential feature that should exist on AnkiMobile. Right now, there’s no way to create or manage subdecks directly from the app: you have to go back to desktop every time, even for small additions.

For example, I use Anki for Japanese tutoring and want to make new subdecks (like Japanese → Lesson 1, Lesson 2, Lesson 3) after each lesson while still having one main “Japanese” deck that includes the cards from all. It’s honestly extremely inconvenient to need a computer to add new subsets or expand the structure. Being able to create nested decks, or at least have an “all decks combined” option, would be a huge quality-of-life improvement for language learners and anyone organizing by topics or lessons. This would make the mobile experience much more complete and independent.

You can already add decks/subdecks in AnkiMobile, just like you do on desktop. From the Decks listAdd/Export > Add Empty Deck. And they follow the same naming syntax – Getting Started - Anki Manual .

You’re not asking this question, but making a separate deck for every “Lesson” doesn’t seem like a good use of your time. It’s easier to manage a collection with fewer decks, and Tags would fit that purpose nicely. Adding/Editing - Anki Manual

[You never need to do that. This “Suggestions” category is the right place to post feature requests.]

Got it, thanks! I just started using AnkiMobile a few weeks ago, so I’m still learning. Right before reading your message, I actually discovered that you can create subdecks on mobile just like on desktop, which clears up a lot of my confusion. I really appreciate your quick and helpful response, that actually clarifies a lot. Not to mention, I read this before posting on the private forum, so your advice is taken.
