Long press on deck name X creates a sub-deck

Good morning o/

As far as I’m aware, there is only one way to create a nested deck :

  • add empty deck button on the home screen
  • manually type out all subdirectories with « :: », one typo and it’s done

What I suggest :

  • long press on a deck name on the home screen
  • haptic touch menu appears with the option of creating a nested deck
  • only type the name of the deck
  • Anki autocomplete the deck’s path

Screenshot : example of a menu showing up after a long press, using Haptic Touch feature

That’s it.

Have a nice day

Something like this has been on the todo list for some time. It’s fairly low-hanging fruit, so I’ll try to get to it for the next release.

For now, an easier workaround than that would be to copy the full deck-path you want from that parent deck. If you open “Rename” for the deck, does it give you that? I know it does in desktop – and I’m pretty sure it does in AnkiMobile as well, since you can use Rename to move a deck.

Then you can paste that in, and the only thing you need to type is :: and your new deck name at the end of it.

Yes! Thank you very much.
Had a moment of realization sooner this afternoon while creating one, only after posting this suggestion. Hope this doesn’t get shelved because of this reply.

Thank you again.
