MacOS installation

I have a mac, specifically macOS14.5. The downloading process was fine, I followed the instructions and it seemed to work. But when I saw the app in the doc of my macbook and double clicked it, it wouldnt open. I would then sometimes get a notification indicating that it failed to open. I tired holding shift and opening it, force quitting the app, redownloading the app, and restarting my entire computer but still no luck.

Ive only gotten the pop-up that it fialed to open a few times, most of the time nothing happens when i click to open the doc

[I have split your post off to its own thread because I wasn’t able to see any connection to the thread you were replying to (different OS, different version, different issues).]

Are these the instructions that you were following? Install & Upgrade - Anki Manual

Did you download the correct MacOS version for your hardware?

What exactly does the error message say?

I followed those instructions and i downloaded the correct version. Now the app is unresponsive and Im not getting a notification of anything

Open anki in a terminal and paste the exact text that you get there into this forum. It probably shows some sort of error.

how do i open it in a terminal

Open Terminal.app, then paste the following text and hit enter:

/Applications/Anki.app/Contents/MacOS/anki

I searched up Terminal.app into safari and it made me download this app, but the app is also unresponsive as anki was

Well that is disappointing! I’m surprised you needed a new app. Terminal.app should be included in MacOS by default. Are you sure you’re using the right thing?

I got it to work, I copied and pasted the exact text but nothing happened

After you hit Enter, did anything change in that window?

Can you restart your computer to make sure that Anki isn’t already hanging in the background before you run the command?

ill restart my computer but no, nothing changed

i restarted my computer and did the terminal thing and it worked! thanks!
