LaTeX use and shared decks

I want to use LaTeX to write equations but I also want to download shared decks in the future. However, the warning on the anki website states that you shouldn’t turn it on if you are thinking of downloading shared decks in the future. So my question is, can I turn it on now to write latex equations for my decks and then turn it off in the future so that I don’t accidentally download a shared deck that contains malware?

Thanks

Is there anything that LaTeX offers that MathJax doesn’t? If not, you could use MathJax instead.

I don’t actually know I didn’t even realise it was a latex alternative, thank you. Also, I’m assuming that means downloading shared decks is still ok because mathjax doesn’t allow for any sort of mallware?

To be honest, even I am unaware of the complete functionality of MathJax, but I think there might not be any vulnerabilities discovered yet.

Well I’ll have a look but for now thank you very much

Yeah, as long as you don’t enable the “generate latex” option in preferences, you’re fine. Anki focuses a lot on shared deck’s security so shouldn’t worry that on that front.
