Is there a way to spread out reviews more evenly?

I’m having an issue where Anki will jam most of my reviews into chunks. So one day I’ll have 200 reviews, then a few days later it will be up to 800, then a few days after that it will be back down to 300 or whatever. This feels extremely inefficient. I would rather it average out to a middle ground instead of jumping up and down and I am wondering if there is a way to tell anki to spread them more evenly.

Because of random fuzz added to intervals, reviews should even out in the long-term. Also the latest Anki versions have an automatic Load balancer enabled. This kind of problem likely occurs for cards that still have low intervals so the fuzz / Load balancing has little effect.

A crude option is to set your deck’s maximum reviews per day to a number that is approximately what you see in the deck statistics Future due section’s Average. The downside is that this will postpone cards with (assumedly) small intervals a day or two which would affect recall.
