I made 3 separate excel files and when I imported them into anki it threw the different cards from different excel sheets into each others decks instead of into the deck I was importing it to. I’m not sure if I should be pressing update, preserve, or duplicate in order to avoid this from happening. Please help and thanks in advance!
-
How are you designating what deck to create the cards in?
- In file headers?
- In a deck column?
- In the import options screen?
- In your note type using Deck Override?
-
Are the notes in the 3 import files duplicates of each other – same note type, same first field?
I made 3 separate excel csv files and then imported each one as a separate deck. The front side of all the cards is the same and I think that’s the problem?
I separated the front and back of each card into separate columns on the excel sheet
Each row of your spreadsheet creates a note. If they all have the same first field and the same note type, they are duplicates of each other. You ordinarily don’t need or want duplicate notes, so let’s take a step back.
Can you tell us what you’re trying to do with these 3 files? Perhaps there’s a better way to get you where you want to be?
im trying to turn these 3 spreadsheets into 3 separate anki decks but its getting mixed up

- After you read the links I posted above – are your files correctly formatted for import?
- Back in my first response, I asked about how you are designating what deck you’re importing into. Answer that please.
- “The front side of all the cards is the same“ – as I said is very unusual. Why are you trying to do that?
I don’t know that we need the files, and you can’t post them here anyway. If you want to post a few sample lines from a file, please post them –
