If you would like automatic optimization of FSRS parameters, please submit a response

Typically, I do anonymous surveys. In this one, if you answer “Yes” to the first question, you will be asked to submit your Reddit/Anki forums/Discord/Github username.

What I’m trying to achieve is to make it clear to Dae that automatic optimization is something that a lot of people want, rather than something that only a few nerds want.

EDIT: in case you DON’T want automatic optimization, feel free to submit a response too! All opinions are welcome.

Do you have an ETA on when you’re going to close the questionaire and publish the results?

Usually, the majority of responses come within the first 3 days. Let’s wait for 6, just to be sure.

Have you gotten the impression the hold up is really that the idea doesn’t have enough popular support? Isn’t it that the functionality could cause major problems for users unless the conflict issues are worked out first?

This looks like another one of those polls that isn’t going to change anything about the reality of the situation or the hurdles that need to be overcome.

I was going to post results together with my comment later, but since Jarrett made this PR, I made my comment earlier: Make FSRS the default? · Issue #3616 · ankitects/anki · GitHub

Also, I forgot to allow others to see the results, it’s fixed now.

I always manually edit the first 4 params (initial Again/Hard/Good/Easy intervals) in some presets so automatic optimization would unexpectedly change the graduation interval of my new cards. I’d prefer that the automatic optimization be at least toggleable on/off per preset and default to off.

Oooooo interesting, could you go into why you do that?

The Good graduation interval usually goes to like 20d after optimization and I disagree with that. I don’t think I’ve been consistent with grading long enough yet and my messy review history makes the params not be that great yet.

Manually editing the parameters is not recommended for anyone. Please don’t take what jhhr said as a suggestion that you should try it.
