Flash Quest is a free early-beta Anki Desktop add-on that turns card reviews into an RPG adventure. Correct answers help you battle enemies and bosses, gain experience, collect equipment, explore different regions, and progress through a story featuring original artwork and music.
I’m currently looking for a small group of beta testers to provide honest feedback about the gameplay, balance, installation, and bugs. Please reply if you’re interested in testing it. I’ll add the download information when my account is permitted to share links.
Add-ons are intended for a specific group of users and are used only by those users so basically there is not much community support for them, so if a developer wants users to test an add-on I think it’s sufficient to simply publish it directly on AnkiWeb.
When non-developers use AI for development and are unsure whether the add-on will work properly, it is common practice to display a clear warning to users on the add-on’s page.
If you need support from other developers or advanced users or if you’re concerned about releasing it as-is, publishing the code on GitHub makes it relatively easier to get support and info.
When developers want to post to communities like r/Anki the common approach is to publish their code on GitHub and clearly state that their activities are nonprofit. Anki is open source and primarily run by volunteers so promotion of commercial projects is almost always rejected even if they are free or mostly operating at a loss.
