I am unable to review my cards in creation order

Hello,

I am an anki user, who uses anki on my desktop, iPhone and iPad. I am unable to review my cards in creation order, despite changing their ‘sort order’ to ‘created’.

Most of the time, they are reviewed in alphabetical or counter-alphabetical order. Sometimes, they are shown to me in counter-creation order. I have tried to ‘reposition’ them, setting the start position to 0 and step to 1, but to no avail.

I would really appreciate if someone could assist me on this - it’s really difficult to learn content that is backwards! Btw, this is on all my decks.

If you’re talking about review cards:

  • Anki is an SRS app so cards will naturally be shown on unpredictable dates.
  • In the deck options, you can set the review sort order to “Order added”. This will ensure that cards are shown in the order they were added, but not that they’ll be shown all at the same time. For example, you might get cards 1, 4, and 99.

If you’re talking about new cards:

  • The order they’re shown depends on their position which you can see in the card browser by adding either the due or position columns (right click on the headers)… and on the new card gather & sort orders.
  • Check that the positions in the browser match the order of the new cards as you expect. If they aren’t, you can sort the cards in the browser by clicking on the columns. The “created” column should sort them based on creation time. Clicking again reverses the browser sorting. After that, select all the cards, right click, and reposition them starting from 0 with steps of 1 and both options disabled.
  • Set the appropriate new card gather orders.
