How to get TTS working on Linux (Ubuntu)?

When doing cards that have a TTS field I currently get the error shown below:

(no players found for TTSTag(field_text=‘’, lang="zh_CN’, voices=, speed=1.0, other_args=)

I did not find any clear resources on how to fix this issue. Did someone face a similar issue and solve it? I saw another post on how to remove the popup, but I want to not just remove the popup but get the text to speech to work.

Thanks for any help in advance!

You need to have to have the TTS voices available for it to work. Anki has third-party add-ons like AwesomeTTS and HyperTTS, have you checked those?

As for resource, check the manual: Field Replacements - Anki Manual

Thanks a lot! The gTTS add-on was the thing I was looking for - simple and effective (I tried HyperTTS but that was unnecessarily complicated for my use-case). Somehow I did not come upon the documentation section on my search (I only searched Google/DuckDuckGo and did not check the docs in particular - my mistake).

In any case, thanks a lot for your help!
