How to disable function keys (F1–F4) from acting as answer buttons during review?

Hi everyone,

I ran into a shortcut conflict while reviewing cards on macOS.

I use the F3 key as a custom shortcut for my keyboard(to make image occlusion card more efficiently) . However, whenever I press F3 inside the Anki reviewer, Anki intercepts it as an answer shortcut and immediately rates the card as “Good” (Answer button 3), advancing to the next card.

I tried using the Customize Keyboard Shortcuts add-on, but I couldn’t find a way to decouple the F1–F4 function keys from the review rating actions (1–4).

I am not able to reproduce this behavior: Anki ⁨26.09b3, macOS Tahoe 26.6.2.

Instead, when I press the F3 key on the Answer screen, nothing happens. When I press F2 and F4, nothing also happens. (When I press the F1 key, the web browser is launched, loading the Anki Manual. This is the Help > Guide menu action.) I also confirmed that pressing the “3” key does cause the Good answer to be recorded.

Perhaps you have an add-on that is causing the behavior you see? You might want to try disabling your Add-ons and seeing if anything changes.
