How are those numbers being utilized by the system?

SCENARIO
Default install
No Addons

Click Add
Click Cards

I see this:

How are those numbers being utilized by the system? I can see it says…
1: Card 1: Front → Back
…but, I don’t know what those numbers mean. Why is it 1? When would it ever be something else? I tried ADDING another Basic card just to see if that would change that, I had TWO Basic cards available to select. But…it still showed
1: Card 1: Front → Back

Confusing.

  • The first 1 is the actual index of the card type.
    • The index is used to order the sequential appearance of cards during review, browser sorting etc.
    • You can change a card type’s index with “Options → Reposition Card Type”
  • The other 1 is part of that card type’s name, which can be changed via “Options → Rename Card Type”
    • You could move it to another index and it would stay there, since the name is just a string, not a number data type.
