I’m a long-time Anki user who relies on it daily to study multiple languages. Over time, I’ve built up a lot of decks, some I use regularly, others I want to keep but not have visible day-to-day. Or at different times of the day based on what I’m studying. I don’t like the visual overload if I’m doing French, but can see Portuguese or sth.
At the moment, the only options are to either move decks around in the list or bury cards (which doesn’t quite achieve what I’m after). What I’d really love is a way to hide or archive entire decks so they don’t show up in the main deck list, without deleting them or affecting the card data.
Something like a “Hide from deck list” toggle or a separate “Archived Decks” view would be amazing. This would make it much easier to stay focused and reduce cognitive clutter, especially for users juggling several subjects or languages.
I’ve seen others mention similar needs, so I hope this might be considered for a future update.
Thanks for all the hard work. Anki has been a huge part of my learning journey.
Thanks for reply, but I already knew about those methods and that’s not what I’m looking for.
I’m thinking of really quick interfaces. Like press a button and my Frech decks can’t be seen at all in the deck list whilst I’m studying sth else, then in the afternoon I can hide the French ones and do the other languages.
Those methods are options but not quite what I’m looking for. If it’s not possible, then fine but I thought it could be really helpful if someone is able to create an add-on that does this.
There are already users who struggle to find collapsed decks or fields. An accidentally hidden deck would be nearly impossible to rediscover for inexperienced users, causing frustration and increased demand for support. It seems more trouble than it’s worth it, considering there is already a very similar feature with deck collapsing.
I can appreciate that could be a real issue for some, but I was asking for the possibility of an add-on. I think the people who’d have that kind of issue can’t have been using anki for a while so are still figuring things out.
I’ve never had that issue. I regularly use subdecks etc and have done for years. But across multiple languages in one day, I’d much prefer the option of something cleaner visually.
For me, that would be a big plus. I’ve been using anki for over ten years, but I’m not a coder.
