I am an idiot and somehow deleted the the card type? Now when I see a card that I have made there this is how it shows up (see image below). When I try and go back to edit the card this message pops up: cloze deletion can only be used on cloze note types. When I try and edit the card a message pops up that there is an error. If anyone can help that would be so much appreciated!!

  1. Make a backup via File → Create Backup
  2. Open the Anki browser and select all the cards which got their note type messed up
  3. Go to Notes → Change Note Type
  4. For the target Note Type (dropdown next to the Save button), select a cloze note type and save the changes.

If you don’t have any cloze note types (I’m not sure how you could delete one without deleting all the cards that were using it), you can make a new one:

  1. Go to Tools → Manage Note Types
  2. Click Add in the menu on the right
  3. Select Add: Cloze → Ok → Enter a unique name and click Ok. Then use it for changing the note type of the messed-up cards.

Alternatively, if you didn’t do much with your collection after you got the problem, you can try restoring one of your more recent autobackups by going to File → Revert to Backup. Anything you did after the creation of that backup file will be lost, but on the other hand, this can restore the state of your cloze note type exactly as it was before.
