Help needed with Anki on Windows 10

Hiya all, I’m trying to install and use Anki on a PC running Windows 10.
After downloading the .exe file and installing it, anki opens fine. However, when I go to sync, after signing in, when anki goes to download my collections, it stops working. Anki freezes and I get a little Windows error message:

What shoud I do?

If you just installed, I’m guessing it’s version 24.04? Sorry, but there’s a known crash issue right now for first time install and sync. I think this might be what you’re seeing.

There are 2 workarounds for now:

  • If you get the “Download from AnkiWeb” confirmation screen just before the crash, you can hit Enter very quickly and it will proceed with the sync (you’ll only have to do this the first time).
  • You can Downgrade to 23.12.x, get sync set up, and then upgrade to 24.04 again.
