I have a strange problem: as I am doing cards, I will hit good or easy (>1 or 2 days) and then see the same card later that SAME day. Honestly, I have been going kind of crazy thinking ‘wait, didn’t I see this… must be remembering wrong!’ for weeks.
HOWEVER: today I remembered to catch one in time! Below is information for one of those cards.
If I’m reading this correctly, I reviewed the card on April 3rd at 18:29 and hit ‘good’ which should have triggered a 1 day interval. THEN the card showed up a second time at 10:57pm on the same day. (the time is a little cut off but visible in the top right of the image). That was less than 6 hours later!
Can anyone help me? I’m kind of tearing my hair out- I’m in my surgery rotation and I can’t keep up with cards at all, largely because I have to review so many things twice.
This almost always happens because of sync conflicts. If you sync your collection between multiple devices and there are changes happening in multiple versions of your collection at the same time, your cards can be left in an inconsistent state. I don’t see the most obvious red flags for that in this Card Info, but there are enough inconsistencies to make it possible.
The next thing I would look at is what your next-day-starts time is set to. This card should be showing up due on 4 April, so if your next day starts before midnight, it could be 4 April in Anki, even though it’s still 3 April.
GAH. I wish this was the problem. I just double checked, and my ‘next day start’ is set to 4am on both desktop AND mobile (it reads as 4 hours past midnight on desktop, 04:00 on mobile)
I also initially thought it was a syncing issue, BUT:
I am 1000% sure that I reviewed this specific card on my desktop at 06:49 - I have only opened my anki phone app once today and it was for like 2 minutes
I have been obsessively syncing both my my mobile apps since I started thinking this was a problem. I have even checked a handful of times that the sync is working, by making sure that after a mobile sync the new/learning/review card counts are the same AND that the first card it shows me is the same as the first card on the desktop app
Out of pure exasperation, I even deleted the anki app from my phone and re-downloaded everything from ankiweb.
I’m so sorry to be difficult, but do you have any ideas? Also, this is my first time using the help forums- is this posted in the right place, and have I done the right things to get people to see it?
For what it’s worth, here are the add-ons I have:
AMBOSS Official Medical School Step Shelf Study Resource
UWorld to Filtered Decks
AnKing Note Types Easy Customization
Find cards from UWorld test
UWorld to Filtered Decks
Image Occlusion Enhanced
Special Fields
FSRS Helper Postpone Advance Load Balance Easy Days Disperse Siblings
FSRS helper is the only one that I have added within the last year. It is recent for me, but this problem started BEFORE I started using it.
I understand your resistance, but you should understand that I see this issue often, and this is pretty much what is looks like.
In your Card Info – even though the number of reps and the interval match the revlog, D doesn’t, and R doesn’t make sense if you studied this card (with S of 3d) today. [Which, by the way – with S of 3d and 1d interval, you might have your Desired Retention (DR) turned up higher than necessary.] There isn’t a way for a card that is set to be due “tomorrow” to be offered “today,” unless this card is in a Filtered Deck (and it doesn’t appear to be).
It doesn’t matter that you didn’t use your other device in the timeframe, and “obsessively” syncing won’t protect you if those syncs are at the wrong times. As I said in that other thread:
What matters is that you always have the most updated version of your collection on this device before you start making changes, and that you update AnkiWeb with that most updated version of your collection when you’re done on this device.
Do any of those add-ons make changes to your cards – like building or emptying Filtered Decks, flagging cards, moving cards between decks, or rescheduling cards?
Did you read all the way to the end of that comment I linked to – to the “What to do now?” section? Those are your next steps. Even if you’re sure I’m wrong and this isn’t the issue you’re having, none of those steps will hurt you.
Go ahead and run a Check Database too. Then watch to see if this happens again.
