GIF animations not running on ankimobile (working on desktop)

I have several cards with animated GIFs on them. (there is nothing relevant in javascript or styling on the card template).

The animations used to work just fine on both ankimobile and on desktop. Now, they don’t run run on ankimobile unless I long press and select “play animation”, but they do still run on desktop. This is a relatively recent development, I can’t pinpoint the exact date it started though. I have found at least three cards where this is the case; there may or may not be more; I have not found any that still work.

ios 18.3.1, ankimobile 25.02.1

I haven’t had any trouble with GIFs on AnkiMobile, so is it possible it’s those specific files? Were they encoded/created differently? Did those specific GIFs used to work or was it just GIFs in general that have worked fine?

Two of those specific gifs used to work. (I tried to upload the three examples, but apparently I can’t attach an apkg here?). One of them was recently added (saved to photos on iphone, then attached from there within ankimobile) - this is when I first noticed it: I assumed it was something about that process, but then I decided to look at other gifs and found two that were older that didn’t work. (I have not found any other ones that are older - I don’t remember what else I would have put a gif on, and I have plenty of non-animated gifs.)

The older ones I’m not certain what process I used to create them, but they both have a readable name in the gif name so I suspect it was a copy-paste from web on desktop.

Found it!

Settings → accessibility → motion → I had “auto-play animated images” turned off because I wanted it turned off in another context (Messages). I’m unsure if it’s possible to configure that on a per-app basis, but that’s a question for a different forum.

Thanks Danika_Dakika for pointing out that you weren’t having any problems with it which prompted me to dig into my own configuration a bit more.
