FSRS gives very long initial intervals after long period without new cards

I have a deck that uses its own FSRS settings (not shared with other decks).

This deck is special — I learned part of the material a long time ago, and for a long time I intentionally didn’t add any new cards.

I keep reviewing this same material regularly, so my deck’s stats look better and better — fewer young cards, higher retention, lower difficulty, higher average interval, etc.

The problem:
Now FSRS “thinks” I’m very good with this deck. When I recalculate the values, it suggests very long initial intervals, like 100 days for the first “Good” rating.

But soon I will add new cards, and I’m sure I can’t remember new ones after 100 days!

My questions:

  1. Is this the way FSRS is designed to work, or is it a bug?

  2. What’s the best way to handle this? Should I reset FSRS values before adding new cards?
