First time user - blank back of card when reviewing

Hi everyone. I’m trying out Anki for the first time. I created three extremely simple cards for my test deck (with just a basic back and front) and set the number of cards for my daily review to 3. I then clicked “study now”.

The front of the card looked fine, so I clicked “show answer” and to my surprise (since everything had seemed so simple and intuitive to that point) the back of my card showed up as a blank. The top menu and bottom menu show, but the text that’s supposed to be on the back of the card does not show and there’s no way to scroll or display it. The only way to see the text that’s supposed to be on the back of the card is to click on edit.

Why would this be? Thanks!!!

I found my own answer. For some reason the card type that was originally being shown to me was “default”. When I switched it to “basic”, then it worked as expected. Now it always shows me the “basic” card type.
