I have a problem with my audio playback which started recently, after importing new deck, although I don’t know if that was the reason for it.
The audio playback started to stutter and/or being interrupted randomly before it can even finish the phrase.
It is not consistent and about half the time it works but half time the problem is there and it is extremely annoying.
Every time I press the play button, or the auto play on new card triggers it feels like the whole app goes into lag for a second. Sometimes audio waits for lag to pass and plays normally and sometimes it starts to play only to be interrupted in the middle and either finish after a split second or not finish at all.
Couple of times the lag forced an unexpected card skip, almost like the app still remembered last button click and after lag passed clicked the new card through.
I have tried the DB optimization and even deleted all the other decks and cleared unused images.
I also updated Anki app to the latest version and have tried the audio drivers replacement.
So far nothing helped.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Russ
Have you tried the other things on the Troubleshooting Checklist – Troubleshooting - Anki Manual? I’m thinking especially about #2 add-ons, and #6 video drivers.
I do not run any add-ons but I was curious about video drivers possibility.
You see I wanted to make a sample video capture to demonstrate exact stutter and surprisingly as soon as I started video capture of Anki window with the Snipping Tool - miraculously it became smooth as butter. No lag, no stutter at all.
I turn the video capture off - lag and stutter back.
So it does point towards render and possibly drivers. But, I did go through all the possible render options in the preference screen after this experiment and nothing helped so far.
Yes, I did restart every time as per Anki’s warning message when the configuration is changed. I also tried full screen mode and nothing works.
The only way so far is the “snipping tool” workaround. That makes the whole thing work like it supposed to, but otherwise I have no idea why it is lagging.
Hi, on my windows 11 gaming PC, I have ridiculous audio stuttering and lag to the point where anki is just unusable. This is all without bluetooth might I add. Let’s say I press the audio button. The first bit of it may play but then it will start stuttering and possibly completely stop playing. Seems like an audio rendering issue?
On other windows PCs I have never encountered this issue. Just my gaming PC. This PC has 32 GB of RAM, RTX 3080 graphics card, AMD 5600x CPU, and multiple SSDs.
Things I have tried:
no I am not using bluetooth
Uninstalling nvidia drivers and reinstalling
Updating Anki
Uninstalling Anki and deleting all Anki files
Uninstalling ALL addons then reinstalling only anki fresh
Updating mpv player to latest version in anki
Turning gsync off (this helped with overall lag)
Turning off nvidia overlay (this might have helped with overall lag)
Exiting spotify, icue, wallpaper engine, Discord, and steam (discord helped the most)
Setting anki to high process priority in task manager
changing video driver from opengl to software to vulkan to direct3D. I’ve tried them all
Anyone have any advice on this? This has made my anki desktop workflow a tragedy
No solution yet, only workaround with the windows snipping tool.
You start Anki deck, then start snipping tool, switch it into the “video capture” mode and start capture of any arbitrary selected frame on the desktop. After it started you can even pause the capture but Anki start to work butter smooth. Finish your practice - discard the video capture and close the snipping tool.
So far that is how I study.
I tried your method and it definitely helped. After I finished recording a clip, I turned off recording and tried using Anki for a couple hours. No audio issues. I wonder if it was because I have to use the snippet tool first then leave it open? Have you experienced this?
