Blank Screen Error (Windows)

2.
Then I start Anki
3.

  1. Is the last picture in chrome if you open localhost with port 8080?
  2. What does the “details” section say?
  3. What do you see in the dev console (especially errors)?
  1. Yes

Check your Internet connection

Check any cables and reboot any routers, modems, or other network devices you may be using.

Allow Chrome to access the network in your firewall or antivirus settings.

If it is already listed as a program allowed to access the network, try removing it from the list and adding it again.

If you use a proxy server…

Check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don’t believe you should be using a proxy server: Go to the Chrome menu > Settings > Show advanced settings… > Change proxy settings… > LAN Settings and deselect “Use a proxy server for your LAN”.

That’s not the console. In that window with the htlm press ESC and the console opens (at least with the anki addon mentioned in the docs and on firefox based browsers).

What if you reload that page (while having the console open)?
If nothing appears, also check the network tab.

Edit: Also, please switch from “Issues” in the console to “Console” Tab and turn on all logging options like seens here:

I ran anki with
set ANKIDEV=1 & set QTWEBENGINE_REMOTE_DEBUGGING=8080 & “%LocalAppData%\Programs\Anki\anki-console”

Then I open localhost:8080 in chrome

If you click on the middle of the three listed pages, what happens?

If the entire screen goes blank when you click on it, please try refreshing the page a couple of times.

Is anything shown in the Elements tab or Console tab after choosing the middle page?

If you copy&paste the displayed middle URL (e.g. http://127.0.0.1:58759/_anki/legacyPageData?id=4600683536) into Chrome, does the deck list appear correctly, or do you get an error?

No errors show up in console, just stuck at loading.

Please note it will need to be the URL shown in the page list, not the exact one I’ve provided above.

It is just a blank page.

Has anyone experiencing this issue gotten the next update of Windows 11 24H2 – build 26100.2894 [Windows Settings > System > About]? Any improvement?

Or is anyone else using 26100.2605 or 26100.2894 who is not having this issue?

[My own laptop has been trying to update to 24H2 – despite all updates being turned off :unamused: – so I’m trying to gauge how bad of a predicament I’m in.]

I’m on 24H2 (OS Build 26100.2894) and I’ve had no issues. (Currently running Anki git main / 25.01 beta 1, not the release build).

That’s reassuring! Do you know if you had build 2605 for a time? It might say in Settings > Windows Update > Update history – possibly labeled KB5048667.

I held off updating from 23H2 to 24H2 for a bit so I might have skipped some versions

The only relevant entries I can see in my update history are:

Feature Updates

  • 2025-01-14: Windows 11, version 24H2 (unknown OS Build)

Quality updates

  • 2025-01-16: 2025-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5050009)

Okay, thanks! Looks like you skipped it, so that might offer some hope for folks that an update might fix it.

I’m a bit confused by your screenshot. What does the network tab show when you reload the page? I wouldn’t expect the page to be blank when viewed in Chrome. If you make a minor change to the number, you should see ‘page not found’ for example.

Sorry if I was not clear. I am asking you to copy and paste the URL shown on the left side of screen (the middle of the three inspectable pages) into your browser. That should cause the browser to display the same deck list page that Anki would normally show in its main window, and may give a hint as to what’s going on.
