Audio auto-play follows the default preset in the template editor

Steps to replicate

  1. Add a note with audio.
  2. Put it inside a deck with preset “A”.
  3. Make the auto-play options different between the presets “A” and “Default” (e.g. “A” has “Don’t play audio automatically” disabled and “Default” has it enabled).
  4. Go to that note in the browser or in the study screen’s edit window.
  5. Click on “Cards…”.

Expected behavior

The audio plays or doesn’t depending on the options in preset “A”, just like in the preview window.

Actual behavior

Audio auto play follows the “Default” preset.

Additional details

AnkiDroid has 3 preview options. The ones in the note editor and template editor also have this bug.

Are you sure that the template editor doesn’t just always auto-play the audio?
Will you try the reverse case – set “Default” to not auto-play, and preset “A” to auto-play?

I already tried that and it works as I said. It follows the “Default” preset.

(By the way, why is it “Don’t play audio automatically” instead of the more sensible “Auto play audio”? It even confused you.)

Thanks for that additional information!

I agree, your version is better. I could open a PR but am unsure if dae would appreciate it (due to all the translations that would need to be redone).

As a rule, the basic state of the switch in the settings is off. Therefore” if the function was called “Auto play audio", it would be turned off by default.
The only exception I see is “Auto Advance/Wait for audio”.

Many options in the preferences are turned on by default. I don’t see this as a reason to have confusing naming.
