I want to apply deck override to a card type I already have, however it doesn’t seem to be working for existing cards of the type, only new ones. How do I make it so that it actually works for both old and new?
Deck Override only works at the time the note is created, so it’s only for notes you add in the future. For existing cards, you can just move them to the deck you want them in.
Guess I can’t on AnkiDroid then. I seemingly can’t set display order by card on this.
The only reason I’m using AnkiDroid is I can’t access my computer.
Which part can’t you do in AnkiDroid? You can set a Deck Override and move cards to different decks.
Seems like I can’t put the display order in the Card browser so that cards of Card 1 show first, and cards of Card 2. Can’t find the option.
It also seems I can’t set the sort field on AnkiDroid.
You shouldn’t need to specifically set that, because unless you choose a sort order that forces something else to happen, that will be how they are displayed. “By sort field” should keep the cards of each note together and display them in order.
You should be able to do that in Manage note types. Choose one, choose the field, and set it.
As it turns out, the instructions confused me for a moment because I thought you may have been referring to “Edit cards” which comes up fruitless. I had to click on the button of emptiness, not any of the text.
But I still can’t put the display order by card type. Sort by Field seems to (still) not allow for that. What to do from here?
Your button-of-emptiness could also be considered the-name-of-the-note-type! But I’m glad you found it!
Are you trying to display just one of the card types at a time, or do you want them to appear as 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2 …? Because that’s what should be happening already. Can you show me what you’re seeing that looks different than that?
I want it displayed as 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, … 2, 2, 2, 2, 2. But it’s being displayed as 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2. And I can’t even set ithe Card Type Sort individually either. Is there something I’ve been overlooking this whole time?
Okay, now I see what you’re wanting – but why do you want that? I’m asking because I don’t think sorting that way is possible, but if you say what your actual goal is, perhaps there is another way.
To move my cards easier. I can do this on normal regular Anki, but not AnkiDroid, it seems.
Having the list order cards by 1, 2, 1, 2 will take FOREVER to move each card with 7520 cards. Even making it so that you could do Shift+Click would not help here because alternating.
Setting the order as 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2 also has this problem, but seemingly to a lesser degree. It’ll still take forever, but a little chunk off of forever. I have no idea if my logic is off or not, but you can select all, then go down to the Card 2s, then just click as much as possible in Portrait Mode till you get all the Card 2s gone.
Once again, takes forever, but a little faster.
Oh yes, we can top that!
- Add
card:2
to your search. - Select all.
- Change deck.
Seems to have solved my problem immediately. Thx!
