They said a few days ago the update should drop for AnkiMobile within 24 hours. Doesn’t seem to have dropped yet, and I updated my desktop app to the new one and optimized everything, removed learning steps, etc.
Should I wait for the AnkiMobile update before syncing to my phone, or can I still use it? I know they said something about it will default to FSRS 4.5, but I don’t know if that is going to cause conflicts with the desktop app. If the mobile update is coming very soon, I can wait a day or two, but my iPhone is the main place I study so I don’t wanna wait too long.
I’ve been reviewing on both; there’s no conflict in terms of FSRS parameters (FSRS 5 parameters are stored in a separate location from 4.5, as I understand it at least partially for this specific reason).
I was using the release candidates for however long now up to the present release and have run into no noticeable issues on desktop or mobile. I use both desktop and mobile every day repeatedly
Just to be clear, you have been using version 24.11 on desktop (FSRS 5) and version 24.08 on AnkiMobile (FSRS 4.5), and syncing between the two?
So when you study on your phone, I assume they just schedule based on the FSRS 4.5 parameters. Did you remove relearning steps? Not sure how the phone will handle that.
Yeah, I was using the release candidates for the last week or two, and now am on 24.11 on desktop and 24.08 on phone and iPad. No issues at all
On mobile it just defaults to 4.5 parameters for basic scheduling. If you remove learning steps it’s not going to translate to mobile; I tried it and can’t recall exactly what it is but I think it just defaults all learning steps to 1d or something awkward.
As a result, I’m waiting to remove learning steps until the mobile release is out. Otherwise peachy keen and smooth sailing
Did you mess with it at all? It’s really jarring for me. None of the cards I studied today were scheduled for less than a 1 day interval when I hit “Again” and most were scheduled longer than 7 days out. My intuition tells me that isn’t right, but we’ll see.
Really hope it’s right. That will reduce my daily reviews by like 20%.
I tinkered briefly but I use the mobile version so much during the day that I realized it wasn’t going to do much good for me until the two versions are in agreement.
I haven’t really messed with it since. Excited to see where it goes once the mobile release goes through, though
Oh interesting, AnkiMobile actually seems to be handling the learning steps similarly to FSRS 5 anyway, even though it’s still on the old version. It’s rescheduling within a few days of what FSRS 5 is doing anyway (I kept the learning steps blank).
