AnkiMobile Skip Button Feature Request

Hi AnkiMobile team,

I’d like to suggest adding a Skip button to the review screen.

The idea is to have a button that lets users temporarily skip the current card without affecting its scheduling or review history.

For example:

  • Again / Hard / Good / Easy → respond to the card normally.

  • Skip → move to the next card without changing the card’s interval, ease, or review history.

  • The skipped card should remain in the current review session and appear again after the other cards in the current queue have been reviewed.

This would be especially useful for users who want to review cards they already know first and then come back to the cards they found difficult, all within the same study session.

Ideally, Skip would work similarly to moving the current card to the end of the current queue, rather than burying it until the next day or suspending it indefinitely.

I think this would be a very useful addition to AnkiMobile, especially for users who want more control over the order of cards during a study session.

Thank you for considering it!

You can set the sort order to “Easy cards first”.

Alternatively, you can bury the cards then at the end of the study session, unbury all the manually buried cards. If there’s a congratulation screen on AnkiMobile, there should be an option there to unbury cards. Otherwise, you can search for is:buried-manually in the card browser, select all and unbury (hopefully; I don’t know much about AnkiMobile).

Note that skipping cards isn’t a great idea (sorting them by easy first is ok). That’s because if you fail to recall the answer within, say 10 seconds, you should fail the card instead, imo. You don’t have infinite time to recall stuff outside Anki.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! I really appreciate it.

I agree with your point, but I think having this option available could still be useful. It would give users more flexibility and let them choose the approach that works best for them, depending on how they prefer to study.

Not to be rude, but it sounds like you didn’t read my reply and just asked an LLM to generate a bland reply that basically says “Cool cool. Still, I want this feature”.

I’ve seen this many times unfortunately.

Any such feature would need to be implemented in desktop Anki first, but there are so many other solutions to this that I think it’s unlikely it would be.

In addition to what ZornHadNoChoice already suggested, you should see the discussions in other threads with similar requests –

:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I actually did read your reply and I understood what you meant. My English isn’t that great, so I usually use AI to help me word my replies and make sure I don’t make any mistakes.

But yeah, I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts, and I totally get what you’re saying.

Yeah, that makes sense. I’ll take a look at those other threads as well. Thanks for pointing them out!

I know there are already other ways to achieve something similar, and I understand that any such feature would probably need to be implemented in desktop Anki first.

Anyway, thanks again for the suggestion and for taking the time to explain it.
