0.6.9 is out: keep the original card with an explanation.
You can now save an explanation, move on to other cards, then return to the original source in Study. “Ask about this concept” uses that saved card and explanation, even if a different card is open. Useful replies can be saved for later practice too.
Older saves are clearly marked when the original card wasn’t retained. Reading saved material works offline and doesn’t use an AI request. Your Anki review schedule stays unchanged.

The demo uses sample cards and responses, with pauses shortened.
AnkiWeb download — code 853364085. Update the add-on and restart Anki. Pricing is unchanged: 75 free hosted explanations, then optional $3/month or $24/year access.
If you try it, I’d especially like to hear whether reopening the original card helps, or whether there’s still a step that gets in your way.
0.7 is out: fix the cards you keep failing.
The new Anki-GPT Studio (Tools → Anki-GPT Studio) adds Card Rescue. It ranks your most-failed cards from Anki’s own review history (read-only), explains why a card keeps slipping (unclear question, too much on one card, look-alike confusion and so on), and suggests a clearer card side by side with your original. You can apply it, add it as a new card, or split it. Rescue top 10 lets you review several fixes in a row.
Also new:
- Make cards from anything: paste a practice question you missed, notes or a slide screenshot, then edit 1–5 cards before adding them.
- Make card and Add to card in the reviewer panel. Add to card pins the explanation into a field, so it shows on AnkiMobile/AnkiDroid after sync.
- Progress: streak, heatmap, retention, weak topics and an exam-date planner (local, free).
- A redesigned panel with one-tap Simpler / Analogy / Quiz me / Ask.
Anki-GPT changes a card only when you click Apply, Add or Add to card, and Edit → Undo reverses it. Your review schedule is never changed.

The demo is the real app with sample cards, waits trimmed.
Update the add-on (code 853364085) and restart Anki. Pricing is unchanged: 75 free AI answers, then $3/month or $24/year.
If you try Card Rescue on your own leeches, I’d really like to hear which diagnoses felt right and which missed.
0.8 and 0.9 are out: give 50 get 50, a quick tour, and an optional Pro plan.
- Invite a friend (new in 0.9). In Settings → Account, or in the panel when your free answers run low, Copy invite gives you a short message with your invite code. When a friend on a free trial enters it, you both get 50 more free AI answers, for up to 10 friends. Anki-GPT never sends anything itself; copying is the only step.
- A 30-second tour the first time you open the panel. It uses a built-in example, so it doesn’t use any of your free answers.
- Pro (optional): 20,000 AI answers a month, Rescue up to 50 cards at once, and Rescue Autopilot. About once a week, Autopilot diagnoses up to 10 newly struggling cards in the background and leaves the fixes for you to review. It never changes a card by itself, and you can turn it off in Studio.
- Settings → Account shows your plan, the date your current period is paid through, and both plans.
- Fewer failed answers when the AI service is busy. Requests now retry on a backup route instead of failing.
Nothing changes for current subscribers: Plus is still $3/month or $24/year, with everything from 0.7. Pro is $8/month or $59/year. The first 75 AI answers are still free, with no API key and no sign-up.
Update the add-on (code 853364085) and restart Anki.
If Card Rescue’s diagnosis of one of your cards feels wrong, please say so here. Those reports are the most useful thing for making it better.
0.10: Untangle the cards you keep mixing up (Beta).
Some cards keep failing because they look like another card: ser/estar, metoprolol/propranolol, ==/===. When Card Rescue finds look-alike confusion, Untangle now shows the cards side by side, quotes the words that decide each answer, and gives the rule that tells them apart. For example: “Ser is used for where or when an event takes place” vs “Estar is used to describe the state or condition of its subject”.
- Add cues to all puts each card’s deciding cue on its Back in one undo step, so it shows on AnkiMobile and AnkiDroid after sync. Your review schedule isn’t changed.
- You can also select 2–3 cards in the Browser, right-click, and choose Untangle with Anki-GPT.
- Each untangle uses 1 AI answer. There’s a fair-use limit: 15 in the free trial, 70 a month on Plus, 180 on Pro.
It’s labelled Beta. AI can be wrong, so the original cards always stay on screen; check the cue against your source before you add it.
Update the add-on (code 853364085) and restart Anki. If an untangle misses the real difference between two of your cards, I’d like to hear about it here.
