Add a way to re-sync media that is changed but has the same filename

I have decks with media that I generate using python. Sometimes I change them but the filename stays the same so Anki sync doesn’t detect the changes and doesn’t re-sync the files. I would love it if Anki could detect any changes in files and sync them accordingly rather than only by filename.

It’s resource and time-intensive to rescan all media with every sync, so I wouldn’t expect this to change in Anki. But there are 2 ways you can prompt a rescan to happen yourself –

• Add or remove a file from your collection.media – Syncing with AnkiWeb - Anki Manual .
• Preferences > Syncing > Log Out – and then click Sync to log in again.

Support thread for Edited Media Files Auto-Sync, not that there’s much need for support. This is an extremely simple addon for making it easier to sync changes made to any media files. Use case If you’re like me and have various javascript files in your collection.media folder that you edit frequently, it’s tedious to have to do the file renaming trick to get Anki to upload the edited files to AnkiWeb. This addon makes that process automatic. No UI or config needed
