.aac audio files not working after 26.09.2 update

Hello, some audio files I have in .aac format aren’t being played in card reviews anymore when they were fine before (and tested on Ankidroid, they work fine there). I tried uninstalling and deleting all Anki files on my pc and then reinstalling an older version but it didn’t work. Also tried reinstalling the newest version and didn’t work either. I’m on Windows. Already tried everything in the troubleshooting guide.

Edit: installing this addon worked but I still don’t understand why the error happened. Might be worth looking into.

I am not able to reproduce this issue on Anki 26.09.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.0.

Specifically, I added the sample-3.aac file from this website to a note, and the audio plays just fine in both during review and when previewing the card.

OP, you used the wording “some audio files I have in .aac format” to describe the issue. Do you mean that some .aac audio files played just fine in your Anki cards, but not others? Or, did the problem affect all .aac files?

Edit: Added: Please also provide some background information about what type of computer and version of Windows you are using.

Yes, for some reason there were .aac files that worked but the majority did not. I’m on Windows 10 and on a laptop

Can you share a sample file? You can upload it quickly to a website like https://gofile.io

Ok so here it is Gofile — Cloud Storage Made Simple

You can use the Preformatted text button in the forum editor or add spaces somewhere in the link to work around that.

Looking at the 57405563465e85335a7ce0377b969883.aac file that was uploaded for the “伐採/felling lumber” card:

% file 57*.aac
57405563465e85335a7ce0377b969883.aac: MPEG ADTS, AAC, v4 LC, 48 kHz, stereo

I assume that this one of the .aac files that did not play for you? (It plays fine in Anki on my system.)

I’m not sure what might be causing the problem.

What version of Anki were you using previously before the problem started, before you updated to 26.09.2?

I note that the “Zzz (legacy) No Sound Fix (libmpv)” add-on that fixes the OP’s issue causes audio to be played audio through python-mpv.

Yes this was one of the files.

I was on 26.08.1 before updating (I’m currently on 26.08.1 again after downgrading)
