When optimizing based on past reviews, does FSRS take into account what the desired retention setting was at the time of those reviews?

When using past reviews as a basis for future intervals, how does FSRS factor in what the desired minimal retention was at the time of those past reviews? For example, If I lower the minimum retention to say, seventy, do some reviews like that for a month, and then raise it back up, will the FSRS algorithm, when looking back at those reviews, have the status of the retention at that state in time influence its decision making? I have found myself grading increasingly stricter but if the amount of review gets a little too high I’d like to be able to temporarily lower it as necessary but I’d like to know how it influences things in the long term as well.

It doesn’t. FSRS looks at your current parameters and Desired Retention (DR), and the full review history of the card to determine when to schedule it next. It doesn’t matter if those past reviews were done with another set of parameters/DR, or with the other algorithm, or by you randomly picking on your own which days to study that card.

Thank you for the quick response! With this I feel much more confident about getting stricter because worst comes to worst I can temporarily lower the desired retention for a while without any long term side effects (besides my retention dropping for the time that it’s lowered).

Thanks again.
