Don’t get me wrong, I love Anki and overall the experience is great to learn. As I am product designer I thought that it may need a bit of redesign to be the top top flashcard app. Here are some exemples, this is not AI generated and just me trying to contribute. I can go deeper in all the user flows but need to see if this trigger some interest to the team and Community.
Are you only interested in contributing to the UX of AnkiMobile – which is closed-source? Or are you also interested in contributing to the open-source desktop Anki and AnkiDroid?
I think it’s better to do it step by step, I would first start with the iOS redesign. If this works well, maybe we could move on Desktop and AnkiDroid
The design looks suspiciously similar to a certain other app. Did you take inspiration from somewhere or?
No, these screens are just using the design system of Apple, making it easy to design and develop.
If you want to know more about it : you can have a look by searching : Human Interface Guideline on Google. (sorry for some reason I can’t post with a link in my text)
Anki has not a strong brand identity (which I think it’s good because Learning a language should not be trigger by any branding or marketing).
The goal is to have something that is updated with new guideline from iOS to have a overall better look and feel. No specific inspiration, just a different information’s architecture and design principles.
I’m still not sure if you’re wanting to contribute ideas for a redesign – or to contribute the actual code. I think the points that you’re missing are –
-
AnkiMobile is not open-source, which is a significant hurdle if you’re proposing to contribute code.
-
It’s unlikely that the AnkiMobile interface will be changed in such a way that it would be inconsistent with the other apps. Obviously, there are already differences in the iOS app that came along with the unique design elements/controls that are standard in iOS, but keeping the UI/UX consistent with the main desktop version has always been important. [The AnkiDroid team has done a lot of work to make their UI/UX more consistent with desktop too.] That’s why significant changes are expected to start in desktop Anki.
Personally, I think the current interface is much better and basically perfect. I would not enjoy the suggested changes.
@Danika_Dakika I understand, well in that case no worries that was just a contribution I wanted to share with the Community. If it’s well the way it is now for the team it’s fine. If one day they think about a revamp, feel free to contact me
You still haven’t clarified whether you wanted to contribute ideas for a redesign – or to contribute the actual code.
