Hi,
was using 10min Learning step FSRS helper addon recommends depending on the time frame I set it to either 55sec as learning set for last month or 31sec and 127sec for deck life. Which is better. I think I used the standard 1m 10m learning steps months ago maybe that’s the reason for the different amount of learning steps.
Which is better one learning step and let fsrs5 determine the next intervall after 55sec or should I set it to 41s, 127s?
I got convinced today that shorter earlier learning steps are better so you don’t forget the card and have to relearn it from new in my opinion you need to see new stuff more frequently than just after 10mins contrary to many people’s opinion.
Looking forward for any input.
btw I really like this forum I always get quick and helpful responses thanks a lot super helpful.
There’s not really a full consensus on one being ‘better’ than the other. You might tinker with the available options and see what’s what.
Some folks have found that letting FSRS determine learning step intervals has led to varying results. YMMV
Perhaps obviously, though more learning steps may lead to higher retention it also comes at the cost of higher workload. It is one potential consideration, at least
As with most things, depends.
Individual variation, difficulty of material, it’s hard to generalize across the board. It may not be that, in all cases, shorter learning steps are always necessary, or better.
Short-term intervals can help ‘bootstrap’ recall for longer-term memory, but this is not yet a fully solved challenge, as I understand it.
TL; DR: try both, see which one, if either, works better for your individual use-case.
