TTS Issues in Anki 25.02

I am returning to Anki on Windows and having trouble getting the text-to speech, which I’ve previously used, to work.

These are new cards, however, so in the interest of thoroughness, here is the front template, though I do not seem to be getting errors with it:

{{tts ko_KR voices=Microsoft_Heami:hangul}}
{{hangul}}

Some specific things that were asked in other threads that I can answer

  • There is no audio output according to the visualizer; e.g., it’s not just that I can’t hear it
  • I can get text-to-speech to work in my dedicated 3rd party tts app

Taken together I think this means I do have an Anki problem?

I have tried the following, but will re-check or provide more information as needed:

  • Tried mp3 files and they work (but def not my preferred resolution)
  • re-started my computer
  • made sure autoplay was on (and neither pressing “r” nor the audio button work, anyway)
  • re-installed Anki
  • Checked for driver updates (none needed)

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance! I read over and tried several things from other threads and I see the hard work many of you are putting into this community :folded_hands:

Have you tried a more bare-bones template/other languages?

{{tts ko_KR:hangul}}

In case this is some add-on, try safe mode as described here: Troubleshooting - Anki Manual

Also, linking to TTS section of the manual: Field Replacements - Anki Manual

Thank you!

I did try the bare bones, and I also gave an English card a go (both bare bones and with a voice specified).

Gave it a go in safe mode and the problem persists, even with the more bare bones template

I’m not sure why this is happening but you might want to check add-ons like HyperTTS and whether these work. One more thing to try would be to check other versions of Anki, like the latest beta (if you’re fine with beta):

You should also provide your debug info.

Where ever the issue was, going to the beta resolved it—a great many thanks again!

My pleasure <3
