I am new to the forum and relatively inexperienced with using Anki in a way that actually helps me learn, so I hope that this question fits here. I have been making my own targeted sentence cards for language learning and I feel like they are a good way to study. But I am still struggling with having some things make sense for me, in terms of what the contents of the cards should actually be.
The front side of the cards contain plain sentences as text with one or multiple words highlighted and being in a different colour. Additionally, there is also an optional text field for details to the prompt, for example with “Adverb” if that is the type of word of the meaning on the backside. On the back side I have the meaning, the piece of vocab itself (for example the raw noun in nominative case) and a field with extra information in regards to context, grammar explanation etc.
While this works well in many cases, I don’t really know what to do when it comes to words where there are multiple layers of meanings I would have to learn. This is often the case with verbs, which not only have multiple meanings depending on context, but are usually also part of the meaning in a pragmatic way that doesn’t have an equivalent in my native language (German).
For example, the Russian word “познакомиться”normally means “to get to know someone”. This would be an example sentence:
Познакомься, пожалуйста: это Кристина.
Here, I would mark “Познакомься” (the singular imperative form) for learning “познакомиться”. The isolated meaning would be that the speaker is asking someone to do the action of “to get to know someone”, but the meaning is also really much more something akin to “May I introduce you?” or “This is [name]” in the action of the speaker or even something else. In German the literal translation “Mach dich bekannt” wouldn’t really work here, there isn’t even a direct equivalent with the meaning between two speakers. I feel like “to get to know someone” isn’t really the actual meaning of “Познакомься” on a pragmatic/higher level, only “познакомиться”. But I want to learn the meaning for the latter in all its forms. I could also learn “Познакомься, пожалуйста”, but I am not sure if that makes sense either…
Does anyone have an idea what I should be putting on my cards? Should I separate between meaning of the words and meanings of verbs? I feel like I can’t quite grasp all of this and what I am missing.
