[ Why ]

  1. An AnkiMobile user in my native language has asked if it is possible to set the wallpaper.
  2. Customizing templates for background is difficult for novice Anki users.
  3. Some users use AnkiMobile only so they cannot access the collection.media folder.
  4. AnkiDroid allows users to set wallpapers, which seems to be a bit popular.
  5. Some Anki users pay a few dollars to get a beautiful template.
  6. The “Custom Background Image and Gear Icon” add-on for PC is one of the popular add-ons.

[ Others ]

  1. Wallpapers do not directly affect study efficiency, so I think they are not a high priority for development.

Another point. Someone might want to have their pet/partner as a wallpaper but they might not want it to be synced to AnkiWeb, or shared in a deck if they share their decks on AnkiWeb.

Wallpapers make things look very nice, so I think there’s a slight positive impact on study.
