Hey everyone! I was wondering with recent FSRS
integration in ANKI and plenty of research on it is there still any research gap i can do (as a medical studnet)

I’m not sure what do you mean by “as a medical student”, but check out the issues here:

The creator of FSRS posted this a few months ago – Call for independent researcher to validate FSRS .

Thank u for ur reply

So there is a need for Comparing Old algorithm and FSRS
Would raw data any valuable to FSRS development comparing old and new algorithm .

Does the FSRS algorithm improve retention and reduce review burden compared to the SM2 algorithm among medical students using Anki?

Study Design:

Randomized Controlled Trial or Crossover Study

Participants: 20–50 medical students actively using Anki

Raw data can be submitted (look at the issues tab of the link I posted). But there’s also a ton of data that can be gathered from AnkiWeb.

If I remember correctly I think the conclusion was that RCTs are either underfunded or not needed. Maybe the FSRS developer is developing and studying the algorithm in his work, but I think that those papers are not available for release because of the rules of his work.

Spaced repetition is difficult to research because it is long term and depends on how the cards are created. Another long-years researcher of the Spaced repetition algorithm has written very few papers (SuperMemo).

Recently several medical schools have been researching Anki. (IAMSE, 2024)

  2. An Analysis of Anki Flashcard Application Usage in the Preclerkship Medical School Curriculum and USMLE Step 1 Preparation, Joe Blumer - Medical University of South Carolina

Oh, I see. I actually just started using Anki recently, and it’s not something that’s commonly used here — whether for local exams or international ones.

Lately, a few research opportunities have come up, so I was thinking of exploring whether I could do some research related to my new favorite app.
