Problem with daily limit

my daily limit is set to 9999 but it keeps saying that i reached my daily limit

  • If you’re asking about Review cards – that probably means you’ve studied all of the cards that are available to study today. The maximum daily limit is a maximum, but it doesn’t guarantee that many cards need to be studied. See also: Anki's not showing me all my cards! - Anki FAQs .
  • If you’re asking about New cards – often that means you don’t have any more available (not suspended, not buried) New cards.
  • For either – it could also be that you are looking at the wrong Options preset, and/or that you have different parent-/subdecks limits that interacting. The Anki v3 scheduler - Anki FAQs

Take a look at those things first. Also take a look at the exact text of the “Congratulations”-screen message, because it will give you more detail about what limit you’ve reached and if there are obvious ways to deal with that.

If you don’t find a solution, please provide more detail when you respond.

all decks are using the same preset

Take a look at my last post again. You’ll need to tell us what you’re seeing in those screenshots that you don’t expect. For instance – you still haven’t said if you’re asking about New or Review cards – and what makes you think there are more cards to study?

This “Default” preset says it’s used by 3 decks (which usually includes the hidden “Default” deck). Do you have only 2 decks?

[Not what you’re asking about, but you should consider enabling FSRS instead of trying to cobble together your own scheduling out of learning steps and tortured intervals.]

I apologise for not specifying. I put 42 new cards and it only showed me 20 cards and said thats the daily limit although i set it to 9999 in the settings. (I am asking about new cards)

as you can see there are only 3 decks, and theyre all using the same presets and settings

(I will consider FSRS thank you for the recommendation)

Is your sync with AnkiWeb up-to-date (so I take a look at your collection)?

It is. how are you gonna look at my collection?(am new to anki)

I didn’t mean to spook you! Don’t worry, your collection isn’t public. A select few have access to the support portal to help the developer out with some support tasks. Let me take a look.

You’re right that there’s something odd going on, but I can’t figure out exactly what. Those cards aren’t buried, but something in the database thinks they are buried anyway. [Hopefully the below is somewhat understandable. Some of it is here to help folks track what’s going on with the issue and recognize it if it happens again.]

Observations–

  • Those 22 New cards are siblings [default Image Occlusion note type, mostly card2’s] of cards you already studied today, so they (ordinarily) should be buried.

  • BUT, you don’t have “interday learning siblings” burying enabled, and the cards you studied today entered the day as interday cards (because of your long learning steps), so the 22 cards shouldn’t be buried.

  • BUT, then you studied those interday cards several more times today, and they were just regular learning cards, so the 22 cards should be buried.

  • Also odd – most of these notes have additional siblings [card3-4-5-6’s] that are buried.

  • Also odd – most of those 22 New cards [all that are card2’s] were studied today in a Filtered deck with rescheduling disabled. And you wouldn’t have been able to build them into that deck if they were buried.

Things I tried –

  • Burying those 22 cards works (i.e. they are buried) – but unburying them returns them to this limbo state.
  • Unburying the additional siblings [the card3-4-5-6’s] puts them in this same limbo state.
  • Check Database – nothing changes.
  • Nothing is obviously wrong with the note type.

Questions for you –

  1. Is today the first time this has happened? In an ordinary day, you’d get to the end of studying and buried cards would be actually buried, so your counters would go to 0, and it wouldn’t look like you had more cards to study.
  2. Is there a reason why you have the “interday” bury settings disabled?
  3. Did you make any significant changes to your settings during the day – before you noticed this issue?

Suggestions –

[A] If this is happening daily, it might be worth more aggressive action [note to self: like APKG-export-import to move to a fresh profile], but I’m hoping that when “tomorrow” starts, the cards will resume normal bury/unbury behavior.

[B] If you don’t have a reason not to, you should enable “interday” bury too. That inconsistency – combined with long learning steps that cause interday learning cards – might have contributed to this issue.

[C] You (and I) are using Anki 25.02. It’s possible that upgrading will incorporate updates that could fix this (but I can’t think of any off the top of my head). Perhaps someone else knows of similar issues that have been fixed.

[D] [This is slightly off-topic, but since the repeated studying today could have contributed too, it seems worth bringing up.] You’ve been churning through the same cards over and over today. You’ll have much better luck with Anki if you start out with better learning practices. When you get a card wrong, stop and figure out why you got it wrong. You should make sure you understand the material, and learn it better right then, so you’ll have a better chance of getting the card right the next time you see it. If you’re seeing a card 5 or 10 or 20 times in Learn, you’re off track.
