(concept design of what I had in mind)
My feature suggestion is very similar to what easy days are supposed to do.
Motivation:
Personally I want to have less new cards on mo and tu, because I work longer hours and have less time overall. Then for other weekdays I can do more. On the weekend I want a day off from new cards.
Problem:
Currently, there is no way to achieve this behaviour, especially with the mobile client exclusively. Not unless you manually change stuff in the settings every day.
Other Thoughts:
Of course the setting should be a toggle, so people can keep on using the old menu with one value of new_cards/day, which would also be the default as not to confuse people who are new to anki.
Aside from people suggesting other ways to achieve my idea, the concept seems well received on the anki subreddit (sorry for the clickbaity title
). There are people who would love this as a setting because they have regular patterns in their week where they just don’t have time (me included). Those are probably also the people who use mobile versions the most, and there seems to be no other way to get reliable custom behaviour on mobile unless its in the official clients.
Describe alternatives you’ve considered:
Making it an addon. Problem being that I then have to power up my pc every day, start anki so settings get applied, sync and shut down. At that point changing stuff on my phone by hand would have almost been faster depending on the amount of decks.

A simpler solution would be a toggle to the easy days like “Also apply to new cards”. Though, I can’t think of how the reduced limits would be communicated to the user.
For completeness, here’s the mentioned reddit post: Upvote so the devs have to add this.

I disagree. I reference easy days so everyone clearly understands what the idea is.
But people who don’t use easy days might also want to configure it so they get less new cards on certain days.
And if it is dependent on easy days like you suggest, do people with easy days enabled now randomly get 0 new cards on easy days?
What if they don’t want 0 but are happy the way things are??
The solution is not to obfuscate how settings work.
Easy days should manage review load.
Limit by weekday should allow you to deviate from the default on certain days if you need to.
I don’t think joining random settings together is a great idea as it takes away the customization we all love.
We can then make it a drop-down option to affect either the review cards only, the new cards only, or both.
I don’t know where you got that idea from. The easy days feature doesn’t completely disable reviews on easy days, and so it wouldn’t disable new card either. Just a percentage: “Reduced” multiplies the limits by 0.6 and “Minimum” by 0.3, with rounding up to avoid zeros. The percentages will be hardcoded.
I’m pretty sure the devs disagree with this!
I know, my point is, by how much do we reduce new cards. I’d like to have the choice to do all my reviews Sunday, and not get new cards. So I would not set Sunday to be an easy day normally. The way I understand your suggestion, since Sunday is a regular day, I can’t reduce new cards now. That’s not really great for flexibility imo and it locks functionality of one setting depending on the way I use another one.
A dropdown toggle in the existing limits option like i suggested is the least intrusive way i could think of to make this setting work.
seems like a good idea, I did it here, test it out…
