Did you use Migration Assistant to transfer files from your old Mac to your new MacBook Air? And, did your old Mac have an Intel CPU? If so, it sounds like the old, Intel-only version of Anki you’ve been using got transferred to your new Apple Silicon Mac.
If that is the case, it is likely that you’ll want to delete the current Anki installation (the ~/Library/Application Support/AnkiProgramFilesdirectory) and then re-download/re-install Anki to get the version that runs on Apple Silicon. (Your decks, media files, study history, etc. are in a different directory and will not be affected by deleting the AnkiProgramFiles directory. Please see the documentation for more information about the different places user files and program files are stored.)
Another alternative you might want to consider trying is installing the Anki 26.05 Beta 1 being tested right now. It uses a different installer (a regular .dmg file that installs apps in the usual way). This new version installs Anki program files in a different place. (The old Anki installation program files will be left remaining on your computer, but they just won’t be used.)
