My AnkiWeb collection was overwritten by old local data

My AnkiWeb collection was overwritten by old local data today. Please restore my AnkiWeb to the version before 2026-04-04. My AnkiWeb username:2217861162@qq.com

Server-side backups are only created in active accounts, but this account doesn’t show signs of recent activity. The only backup available is from last month (5 March), and it’s an empty collection. I suspect you don’t want me to restore that.

Can you describe the steps that led you to believe you overwrote your collection? That might help me figure out something to suggest.

I haven’t used the software much in the past six months or so. A month ago, it kept failing to sync local data, and I didn’t pay much attention to it. A few days ago, I logged into the website to check the specific issue and found that I could only see the memory usage of the files but not the actual content. After syncing my local data again, I can now view the content on the website, but all my previous files are missing. These files are really important to me. Could you please help me recover them? Thank you so much.

Was this in the app you were using – AnkiDroid, it looks like (but a very old version)?

If you have your collection on your local device, you have everything you need. Have you run a media check there [in AnkiDroid – 3-dots menu > Check > Check Media]? Do you have “missing” files?

I want to make sure we’re talking about the same thing. Is this the website you logged into – https://ankiweb.net/decks ? It sounds like you saw the storage used at the bottom of the main page. Where did you look for “the actual content” and not find it?

What does it mean that you can both “view the content,” but “previous files are missing”? What is “the content” and what are the “previous files”?

I got a new device and am using an old version of AnkiDroid. The local files were different from those in the cloud, and I had no backup for the files that went missing from the cloud. I logged into your website; when I went in, the top section showed the cloud files along with the memory size they occupied, and previously the files themselves weren’t displayed. After I synced the other local files, I could see the local files I synced on the website, but the files previously stored in the cloud are gone. Also, the local synced files are different from the ones previously stored in the cloud — why were they able to be overwritten? Or were they lost?

I can’t figure out what you’re talking about. There’s nowhere in AnkiWeb you can see a list of your attached media and file sizes. When you log into AnkiWeb, you should see a list of decks/subdecks at the top, like this –

It also sounds like you saw these things in your AnkiWeb account a couple weeks ago. But your account has been inactive since early 2025, and after 6 months of inactivity, the data in your account was deleted in November 2025, so there wouldn’t have been anything there.

Was this something that you synced to your AnkiWeb account after November? If it was, you’ve got it on your own device.

No, I don’t have any account data on my device anymore. Could you help me restore the account data to its state before last November?

Unfortunately, I cannot – as I said above . There are no backups from before last month.

I am puzzled by how you have a new device, but an old version of AnkiDroid with old data in your local collection – especially if that data is somehow older than the collection you had on your old device that you were syncing with AnkiWeb. It’s possible you’re looking in the wrong place on your device, and your more recent data is still there, but you haven’t given me enough inforamtion to do much more than speculate about that.
