Math symbols and MathJax

I just started anki and I want to know how much I should focus on all the unique card types versus the basic card types I’m familiar with, also how do I add math symbols for my cards, an example being the symbol for all real numbers, which is slightly different from the symbol for remainders, or the symbol of change. Which is like a triangle.

I recommend sticking with the basic card types for now. Consider an extra field on the back for context information, this makes your cards more interesting and engaging.

If you often use symbols like ℝ, consider using a text replacement tool to e.g type R# and get ℝ.

For advanced math syntax there is MathJax (Math and Symbols - Anki Docs), which works really well within Anki.

I don’t really get mathjax, for context when it comes to code or script of any kind I’m terrible and have no experience or idea on what I’m doing, I’ve looked at the cheat sheet and still feel confused. Can’t I just use a latex converter and copy the script into into the mathjax inline? Or will it not work?

I’d like a recommendation for a text replacement tool to make putting certain math symbols easier, since I looked online for text replacement tools for anki and can’t find any.

Also I took a look at the mathjax cheatsheet and got overwhelmed, can anyone share their experience on how long it took for them to get accustomed to it? Since I think that might help me with getting over just how dumb I feel for not getting all of this on my first go.

Dumb question but, how many times am I allowed to write on my post? I’m assuming I can’t just post stuff here in my threat anytime I need help for something I can’t figure out myself, I’m not tryna get kicked out for talking too much here.

Bit of good news: I finally got the symbol I wanted for real numbers with \mathbb, while technically its justs a font, it’s close enough to what my precalc professor showed us in class and I’ll be taking this as a small win.

This is the first math card out of many to come later on.

If you have more questions about math symbols, that’s fine to ask here. But if you have several additional questions, better to ask them all in one reply than scattered across small replies every 15 mins [which is why I merged your last 3 into 1].

If you want to ask about something else that this thread isn’t about – you should search for answers first, and if you don’t find what you need, post separately.

[I also updated your title to make it more useful. This probably wasn’t the ideal category to post in, but I’m not sure which of the apps you’re using, so I haven’t moved it.]

If you use LaTeX notation, you’ll have better luck pasting that in as LaTeX, not MathJax. But LaTeX is far more complicated, so I recommend against doing that. (See the same link above.)

This doesn’t need to be very complicated. Without using any special notation, you can copy-paste symbols you need from your text, the internet, or an app in your OS (like “Character Map” on Windows).
