Import Window does not open when importing .xml files

For some reason when I import .xml files (from SM), no import window opens. The problem is it imports into the wrong deck and does not give me the option to add tags.

It also adds a tag “Memorized” to a lot of items. I don’t believe tags have any function? Or does this tag do something?

How do I get it to give me an import window? I don’t find any of the above discussed in the manual.

The SuperMemo importer was contributed many years ago by an Anki user, and has not been actively developed for some time. PRs that improve it would be welcome!

From a brief skim of the code, it appears to be tagging items with a non-zero interval. I don’t remember exactly when it was added, but perhaps it was before Anki had an is:new search.
