How to show cards sooner if they've been moved to the back of a deck

I suggest:

  1. going to the tools → preferences and uncheck the option to show next time intervals above answer buttons.
  2. Then click on the gear to the right of a deck, scroll down and enable FSRS.
  3. Trust the algorithm.

To answer your questions, Anki is an SRS app. That means that you:

  1. Open Anki every day.
  2. Clicking on the decks to study.
  3. See the question.
  4. Try to recall the answer.
  5. Reveal the answer.
  6. Grade yourself.
    • Again means that you have failed to recall the answer or recalled incorrectly. The other three buttons are pass grades. Normally, you press Good if you answered correctly. Hard is when you struggled with the answer or took longer than expected. Easy is for when it was really easy.
  7. Rinse and repeat until you see the congratulations screen.

Anki handles when you’ll see the cards again. It uses a smart algorithm (FSRS) to schedule cards to make sure you remember them in the long term.
