How many users use Anki for long-term retention?

Specifically, for cases where you may not have a pressing need to know any specific set of information next week, but there is a lot of information you would like to know in the next few years. This applies to language learners who are serious about absorbing a large amount of vocabulary, among others. Is this type of user rare, dwarfed by the users who are preparing for upcoming tests? I have impressions, but I am interested in gathering more insight. Relatively speaking, how many language learners keep decks for well over a year and aim to make them valuable for that long (i.e. not adding common vocabulary they know they won’t need a deck for long-term)?

I’m not a language learner but I use anki to learn for the things I need in the future, not just for tests. And considering that there are many students (like medical students) that will need their knowledge, I think it’s safe to say that people don’t generally just learn to pass exams.

Anyway, I don’t think there are usage statistics like that available.
