Turso. Much improved and replaceable.
It’s beta software, so I don’t think it’s wise to replace something as ubiquitous as SQLite with it.
Considering that it’s written in Rust, I’d rather avoid it, like any other software written in Rust. Adding Rust to Anki was a fatal mistake, and Dae and others who committed to the Anki repo now have to deal with the added difficulties and consequences which is not pleasant to see. I feel sorry for them.
lmao
Frankly, I’d say DAE is right (along with Linus) regarding Rust in the long run.
I’m skeptical about this. Anki has a history of poor technical decisions. The top three, in my view, are introducing Rust, Svelte, and TypeScript/JavaScript into the project. Python too, though I omit it because it’s necessary for creating add‑ons. It might work out in the long run, but if things go south, it would be easier to cut losses with fewer Rust dependencies to replace.
