FSRS parameters

hello,

I’m currently getting more right answers than before (my true retension rate is currently 93.1% from 90.2% last month and still going up.

I optimized the FSRS parameters. I went from this
0.8538, 1.4620, 2.5219, 13.3014, 8.8720, 0.7432, 3.7091, 0.0010, 1.3025, 0.0452, 0.8701, 1.8268, 0.0060, 0.3144, 2.2327, 0.0000, 3.4431, 0.2842, 0.0979

to this
0.9167, 1.6905, 2.6819, 13.2030, 8.9127, 0.7499, 3.7285, 0.0010, 1.2872, 0.0325, 0.9172, 1.6984, 0.0027, 0.3283, 2.3543, 0.0000, 3.4324, 0.3067, 0.0291

can someone please tell me what these numbers mean ? longer intervals ?
some are going up but others are going down which I don’t understand.

thank you.

I don’t think understanding each parameter will necessarily be useful to you, but if you want to read the formulas and see how each parameter is used, you should feel free! Here’s a good article about that.

Re-optimizing just means that you’ve given the algorithm more information to work with in its attempts to track how your memory works. If you want to see how much of a difference it made –

  1. Run Evaluate. What’s your RMSE?
  2. Plug your Parameters into the FSRS Visualizer. If you open one browser tab with the visualizer and your old parameters, and another tab with your new parameters, and don’t change anything else on the page, you can flip back and forth between the tabs to see how little changed.

before optimizing : Log loss: 0.3097, RMSE(bins): 1.61%.

after optimizing : Log loss: 0.3096, RMSE(bins): 1.60%.

That means FSRS was able to improve its mistakes-predicting-your-memory rate from 1.61% to 1.60 percent. I wager you will notice no difference at all.

thank you.

do these tiny little changes (I assume that they’re small because improvement in my retention rate is very recent) mean that Anki is trying to adapt and to make my true retention rate (now at 93.2%) and my desired retention of 90% rate get closer together ?

and to do that, it will slowly make the intervals longer (with many subtleties, I infer).

PS : sorry, maybe the answer lies in the visualizer but it looks very obtuse to me

If I remember it correctly FSRS is trying to at least reach the desired retention. So if your desired retention is 90%, then FSRS will try to give you at least 90% but you might remember upto 100% of your cards.
