You asked about emoji – so my answer was about emoji. If you use new or platform-specific emoji, they might not work.
I don’t know what you mean by “data loss”?
Emoji use is unlikely to cause data loss. They may fail to display in older Anki versions, but that’s probably the worst that will happen.
