Can an AnkiWeb add-on have open-source code and separately licensed artwork?

I’m preparing an Anki desktop add-on that includes animated character images.

I plan to release the code under AGPL-3.0-or-later and provide its source. I’ve read AnkiWeb’s terms requiring an AGPL-compatible license, but couldn’t find guidance specifically covering bundled artwork.

Would AnkiWeb accept an add-on with:

  • AGPL-licensed code;

  • a separate artwork notice permitting use and redistribution bundled with the add-on, including modified versions; and

  • no permission granted for standalone commercial reuse of the artwork, such as merchandise or unrelated products?

Does the AGPL-compatible licensing requirement cover every bundled image and animation asset, or can those have separate terms?

An official policy link or clarification from the AnkiWeb team would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Can you clarify whether this is your own artwork that you want to protect in your add-on, or someone else’s artwork that you have a license to distribute, but can’t extend to others?

One easy solution (regardless of the answer there) would be to share the add-on on AnkiWeb without the protected artwork, and have that downloadable separately by users, with its own protection/licensing advisements.

If it’s your own artwork, this doesn’t sound very different from including a copyright-protected image in an add-on and explicitly permitting the image to be reused in forks of the add-on, but not outside of that. Is that the sort of thing you have in mind?
