Browse - Notes, Suspend, Bury. How to understand the logic of work?

Excuse me, I’m still a beginner at Anki.
Version ⁨25.09.2 (3890e12c)⁩

If Suspend is set, then why, after setting Bury, do I get two, but when I go down a line and return to the top, it turns out that nothing is selected?

Python 3.13.5 Qt 6.9.1 Chromium 122

If I reset Suspend and then install Bury, Bury will be installed.
If there’s a checkbox there, is it supposed to be possible to have it both ways?
I thought that if Suspend is enabled, it takes priority.
It’s just that the help file Browsing - Anki Manual describes the “Toggle Suspend” menu item, but doesn’t describe “Toggle Bury” at all.

And here’s where the design comes into play. If we highlight the current row, the color information disappears.

The same problem applies to maps; they could have more colors, and I need to see that. It would also be nice to prioritize: (Bury or Suspend), Mark, Flag
Mark in front, on the left, was there before and left for compatibility, and it’s useful; let’s say a map is for an exam, while flags are already in study status.

I’m currently changing the expansion and figuring this out, so for now, my solution is this:

In the picture above, only one card is marked with a red flag, and it’s in “Suspend” status.

How much more informative is this?

In any case, the highlight doesn’t interfere with my ability to see the color underneath, and even if transparency is enabled in other operating systems, the colors still don’t convey everything.

A card cannot be suspended and buried at the same time – Studying - Anki Manual . But since Bury is a temporary action, and Suspend is more permanent – Suspend will take precedence.

  • Suspended cards will not be automatically buried.
  • If you Toggle Bury on a card that is already suspended, nothing will happen.
  • If you Toggle Suspend on a card that is already buried, it will be suspended.

Suspend and Bury are both applied at the card level, so if you’re in Notes mode, you won’t see the color for either of them – Browsing - Anki Manual . But if you click a Cards action in Notes mode, it will generally be applied to all of the cards for that note.

I read the help there about how it displays. But the way it sets flags is strange, since it should prevent it from being set.
I use hotkeys, and you can see it too. I’m in notes view mode, and I can’t visually see that the line is in “Suspend” status. I press Ctrl+Shift+J and think it worked… but it didn’t, and even if it did, it’s unclear whether it turned on or off. Okay, you say, “Switch to cards view.” Okay, I did, and the card is marked with a red flag. I press it again, and nothing is visible, since the flag is now the priority.
And it’s not visible anyway, since the highlighted line is replaced with its own color.
You might say, “But you shouldn’t look at the color,” like, “Look at the “Due” column.” For a card, it’s in brackets () when you set it to “Suspend,” and the color changes slightly, barely noticeably (Learn is in brackets, Review is just empty), but for a note (new entry), it remains empty and there’s no color.
Also, “Due” isn’t always displayed in the column; it’s either not included, or many other columns have been included, and we can’t see it because we’re looking at other columns.
That’s how it works now, inconsistently.

Yes. In Cards mode, you can see that a card is suspended/buried because the “Due” column information (due date or New-queue number) is in parentheses. This is true for flagged cards as well (although I don’t think suspended flagged cards are a different color than unsuspended ones).

Those parentheses should show for any card in Cards mode. But in Notes mode you get different information in the Due column –

The due date for the note’s next due review or (re)learning card that is not suspended, buried or in a filtered deck.

See: Browsing - Anki Manual

It’s not clear what you need help with. You asked for help understanding what is being displayed, but it seems like you do understand, and you know where to look to find the information you need – you just don’t like it.

I looked in the help. Maybe it’s different in the new version, or maybe it’s supposed to be like this. In one case, it’s in parentheses, but in another, it’s blank for some reason. Why?
If I uncheck the flag, the date comes out the same. Why is it done this way? I don’t see it in the help, and there’s not even a full translation. I just started translating it, I haven’t gotten to these topics yet… and I don’t know when I will. I’ve only translated the entire program so far, and that’s good. Now I still need to translate the help, and I’m not a translator, but I’ll have to explain the intricacies of how it works.
How can I understand this if the logic is hidden from me, much less the average user? I don’t even have any hope for the AI; it sometimes says such nonsense, it’s sad. It was trained on older versions, and he admits it.

This is happening in this test deck. I saved it, opened it in a different profile, but it’s still there. Can someone explain the display logic, and when it’s in () and when it’s completely empty? We view them as cards; the color is visible there, but that’s only when the cards are shown. I’d like to understand this so it’s clear what to write in the help. I’ll definitely have to describe the “Toggle Bury” menu item and that there shouldn’t be a checkbox at all, there should be a toggle, especially if the help says “Also note that a card cannot be buried and suspended at the same time. Suspending a buried card will unbury it. Suspended cards can’t be buried.”

What’s in the Card Info for that card? Something got it into a state where it doesn’t have a set due date.

If you’re translating the docs or localizing the interface – you shouldn’t be coming up with your own descriptions of anything. A translator’s job is to remain faithful to the original text. If you think the original text needs to change, that is an option, but it needs to start there, not with a translation.

I tested it, and it could be because of that. What’s displayed here doesn’t mean there’s more in the database… but I don’t know where to find a description of the fields there. Yeah… I wouldn’t mind if they told me where the scheduler source code is, because it’s also unclear why many things happen one way or another.

I don’t completely agree with this. You still have a lot to work on in English, and I’ve already said that I’m not a professional translator. We even have our own terms in Russian, and it’s difficult to find many of them. What can’t be translated will, of course, remain that way, like field names.
Many works could have been processed and translated even better than the original English version; more than one author has already stated this.
When I add something, it’s something useful for us, but not for you. Like this: (To translate a page from English, you will need to right-click and select the menu item “Translate into Russian”)
Or this (also added in parentheses):
(To translate a page from English, you’ll need to right-click and select “Translate to Russian” from the menu.)

In Windows and Linux, you can hold down the Alt key and press the highlighted letter to activate a specific menu item.
(Note: If you’re in English input mode and the menu is in Russian, switch to the Russian keyboard layout.)

Or this:
Therefore, if you need to contact the author, then look at the very beginning of the add-on file “init.py” (on Windows, this file can be found in the folder with the add-on number, which itself is located in the add-ons21 folder of all add-ons).

Or this:
If you don’t immediately turn the card over, but rather think about the answer for a moment (being active), this will allow you to memorize more effectively than simply skimming the material (being passive). However, don’t waste time recalling a single card for more than 10 seconds, as your goal is to achieve instant recall, meaning you need to develop the knowledge to the point of automaticity (develop a skill).

Or something that is now incorrectly written about this program:
Despite SuperMemo’s enormous impact on the field, the program isn’t without its problems. It was often criticized for being buggy and difficult to use. For a long time, it only worked on Windows computers, and only recently have they begun to evolve, incorporating AI assistants and other features.

There’s a proposal to create a single place for the manual. Maybe they’ll do it someday, but if I do, no one else will do it or support it. At least there would be a manual for beginners in this language.
And yes…from the program, you can only access the English version by pressing F1, and Google Translate doesn’t translate very well, unfortunately, but that’s true, and even AI doesn’t always do a good job.

I haven’t translated much yet, but it’s a huge volume, so it’s still a project until it’s fully translated: +Введение - Руководство Anki
For now, I recommend simply translating as you would in a browser…but there are many differences and it’s not always clear.
