I just registered to the forums, even though I am a long-time Anki user, so hello!
I am here to share an add-on I have been working on for a while: the idea is that, instead of checking the back of the card, one has to write a sentence using that word.
After that the sentence is sent for review to an AI (can be local, using ollama, ora google gemini and nvidia, which both offer free tiers that allow to use it for free).
There are some bugs, sometimes the config will not be saved and don’t trust 100% the AI review, but it is really helping me out!
You can download both the ankiaddon file and the source from the github page. I can’t share links so you have to reconstruct it removing the spaces:

I also made a video about it (see bottom of this message) and I will add a video explaining in detail how to set up the api keys (but it should be simple enough).
You need to:
- get an API key or set up ollama
- configure the plugin to be active on one (or more) of your decks
You can always just check the back of the card or deactivate it.
I don’t know how to share it directly on the list of anki add ons so for the moment you have to download the file directly.
This is an example: the word is the Spanish “pan”, I wrote a sentence, I got the feedback.
